Bruce Smith - GOV.KY
Mr. Smith has 38 years of continuous service with the Cayman Islands Government. On 1st November, 2023 he was appointed Director (Designate) of the Cayman Islands Customs and Border Control Service (CBC) and on 1st August, 2024, he officially assumed the position of Director. Prior to his appointment at CBC in February 2019 as Senior Deputy Director, he spent 21 years at the former HM Customs Department and 11 years with the former Department of Immigration. As Deputy Chief Immigration Officer from July, 2007 he headed the Portfolio of Border Control and on 1st December, 2014 was appointed Acting Chief Immigration Officer, a post he served faithfully in for 4 years. Currently and while working within the parameters of an agreed transition, his Portfolio includes: Intelligence, Investigations, and, Sister Islands.
He holds fast to empowering others that they too will develop and become confident and effective future leaders. He subscribes to leading by example and creating blue prints for other to follow. He is a firm believer in preserving his integrity, sharing knowledge, transparency, being accountable and the practice of good governance. He has received numerous service, supervisory and leadership awards including Civil Service recognition awards. Over the years he has served as a valuable resource on various Boards, Tribunals, Committees and Sub-Committees. He looks forward to spending his leisure time with his family.
